
On Friday and Saturday, May 19 & 20 the Town of Hillsboro and the Hillsboro Preservation Foundation will celebrate Spring during the annual of Gardens in the Gap Festival held in historic Hillsboro Virginia.
The event kicks off Friday at 6 p.m. with a special Eat, Drink and Be Literary presentation featuring author and environmentalist Catherine Zimmerman who will discuss why native plants are critical to the survival and vitality of local eco-systems.
On Saturday, May 20, visitors are invited to take self-guided tours of Hillsboro’s notable historic gardens, enjoy a formal Outdoor Garden Tea Service and visit organic plant vendors on the grounds of Hillsboro’s Old Stone School.

Join us as author, horticulturist and documentary filmmaker Catherine Zimmerman helps us kick off Hillsboro's 2023 Gardens in The Gap weekend with a special Eat, Drink & Be Literary!evening. Zimmerman's non-profit Meadow Project, her book Urban and Suburban Meadows, and her video Hometown Habitat: Stories of Bringing Nature Home have been shaping influences on the growing movement for more native plants in landscaping and meadowscaping across the country.
Tickets: $15 in advance, $20 at the door.
Ticket includes light hors d'oeuvres, local beers and wines available at The Gap Bar.
Doors open at 6 p.m. Program begins at 7 p.m.

The Garden Tea service will be held in the notable gardens of one of Historic Hillsboro’s oldest grand Victorian homes, Hill Rose Cottage. The garden is composed of native plants mixed with other stunning flowers. Guests can walk the garden watching artist sketch, create art or see one of many modern art pieces mixed in with the historic surroundings. Guests will also be given a refreshing, “welcome to the garden” drink of their choice: Peach Julep or Sparkling Wine. There will be delicious savory and sweet food and exotic tea served in elegant tea sets. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to see an exclusive and historic home garden.
In honor of Farm Tour Weekend we are having a Tea with a Purpose: All net proceeds will go toward the Hillsboro Preservation Foundation’s Legacy Farm Marker Program, which helps recognize family owned farms in the Hillsboro area. To bring attention to the importance of our agricultural roots.
